Beginner Classes & Guided Play
New to mahjong? This is where you can find a list of all upcoming beginner classes and guided play events for newer players. We teach at venues all over the western suburbs.
Introduction to Mahjong classes are perfect for brand new players or players who are coming back to the table and want a refresh.
Guided play is for players who have attended an introduction class and want help making game time descisions. Instructors are available during guided play to assist players on selecting their hand, rules and etiquette questions.
Introduction to Mahjong at Pinot's Palette
We also teach beginner lessons each month at Pinot's Palette in Naperville. Check out their schedule on their website to find a date and time that works for you!
Lucky Tiles events are sponsored by two local instructors, Angela & Colleen. These sessions are perfect for players who want to meet new people. We always have beginner tables at these events. When you register you will be asked if you are a beginning player or an intermediate player. There is no instruction provided at these events.
The Bambird Scramble is a fantastic way to meet new friends and play mahjong as often as you would like. $75 provides you access to the app where you can accept a mahjong game at a venue & time that is convenient to you. Anyone who knows how to play (beginners and intermediate players) can join the scramble and play. There is no cap on the number of participants. For the Chicago West Scramble, you should live in or be available to play games in the western suburbs. Fall scramble registration opens August 17 and the 9 week session starts September 14.
Lucky Tiles Leagues are sponsored by two local instructors, Angela & Colleen. We are offering three league sessions this fall.
Varsity League
Wednesdays from 7-9pm starting September 9 - this is for players who have been playing for over 6 months and can confidently complete a 25 minute game.
Rookie League
Tuesdays from 7-9 pm starting September 8 - this league is for players with 3-6 months experience and need a little extra time during the Charleston. Players should be familiar with NMJL rules and can complete a game in 30 minutes.
Morning League
Wednesdays from 10-12 starting September 1. This is a league for confident players who can finish a game within 20-30 minutes. If you are still struggling with identifying hands or doing the Charleston, sign up for some guided play events and join us in October (or sign up for the Rookie league!).
